The ambition with 2023&Beyond is to look to the future. We want to provide inspiration and knowledge about the development of commercial spaces and spark new ideas and conversations. During the day we will explore everything from sustainability and leadership to the changing retail landscape, and how it may impact customer experience, store design, service proposition, rent and valuation models. We will finish off the day with NCSC Nordic Awards where the winner of Best Nordic Shopping Center 2022 will be elected.

  • We will meet up at Sergel HUB and start off with a presentation in the conference hall, followed by a guided visit to Urban Escape only a few minutes away on foot.

    About Urban Escape
    Since opening in 1976, Gallerian has developed into an iconic shopping destination in the heart of Stockholm City. A reconstruction begun in 2014, which includes five buildings, two squares, two international lifestyle hotels and a shopping center, to form what is now called Urban Escape. Further, IKEA choose to open its first city department store here in June 2022. The vision is to create a more vibrant city block with offices, hotels, shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and other meeting places.

  • At Sergelgatan in central Stockholm, a 2.700 sqm space is being planned with the aim of giving people inspiration and knowledge to realize their dreams. Spirit of__ will offer visitors a palette of experiences in different formats, whether you are looking for an exhibition, good food, a calming library, or a shop full of inspiration. Behind the project is a strong quintet of successful entrepreneurs, led by Jan Broman, co-founder of Fotografiska and Paradox Museeum.

  • Today there is a strong value in having a “physical home” as a brand, an actual space as an extension of a web shop and social media – to activate, interact, inspire, and stimulate the brand community. Through campaign-based activations, RAY Atelier specializes in creating head turning and unique installations for top brands such as Totême, Hermès, Tiger of Sweden and Nordiska Galleriet.

  • When the pandemic hit, Elkjøp realized that their digital shopping experience needed to reflect their store experience.   • 3:30 pm - Sustainabilization - how to think and act in a world in transition
  • More and more companies are realizing the long-term advantage of switching to more sustainable business models, but few know how to go about it. Mikael Botnen Diamant has been working with sustainability issues for over 20 years and participated in the negotiations that led to UN's global 2030 Agenda (SDG:s). Carl-Johan Schultz has a long background in the communications industry helping and pushing brands to evolve their sustainability focus and ambitions.

    They will share their philosophy behind their new book, Sustainabilization: a guide for companies in transition, and provide insights for how to accelerate your sustainability work.

  • The waste room at shopping centers is often a black hole where both information, responsibility and values are lost. What does it take to change this?   • Volvo Car Mobility is a subsidiary of Volvo Cars and has been operating its car-sharing service Volvo On Demand in cities of Sweden since 2019. Volvo Car Mobility has built a smart AI mobility platform to advance behavioural change and sustainable development. Steinar Danielsen is Sustainability Lead at Volvo Car Mobility and will provide insights into the shift from ownership to sharing and KPIs to support both growth and sustainability.

  • 4:30 pm - Optimizing the tenant-mix by analyzing data
  • Satisfactory risk-adjusted returns for a shopping center owner are ultimately derived from the tenants´ rental payments. Therefore, how successful different tenants are at generating value for their own businesses, and to create collective mall experiences and revenues at the lowest possible risk, is key. Han-Suck Song will present a data-driven analytical framework that support important questions that mall owners and investors face. At the core is a tenant rating tool that aims at minimizing costly vacancies, reallocations, and corresponding costs for various adjustments of space.

  • 4:50 pm - Fireside chat with new owner and CEO of Åhléns, Ayad Al-Saffar
  • The fact that Axel Johnson sells Åhléns department stores after 34 years headlined most media outlets when the news broke late this spring. The new majority owner and CEO will be the entrepreneur Ayad Al-Saffar, who among other things owns Ur & Penn. We are curious to find out what he has in store for one of Sweden’s most prominent and well-known brands!

  • 5:10 pm - Leadership during challenging times
  • Johan von Schreeb is one of the founders of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Sweden and has over 20 years of experience in leading efforts in disasters around the world. He has worked during Ebola outbreaks, wars, natural disasters, the covid-19 pandemic and was recently asked to coordinate international aid efforts in Ukraine on behalf of the WHO. He will share his experiences of leading medical efforts in chaos and disasters.
